PolarisMail Infrastructure

Great service usually means a solid investment in infrastructure, from the bottom up.

Uptime

For the first half of 2008 ( January - June ), PolarisMail achieved an uptime of 99.9995% which translates to roughly 77 seconds of downtime. Read below to find out how we managed this impressive feat

Location

PolarisMail is located on the Northern East Coast in Montreal, Canada. The city has a very low risk for earthquakes, hurricanes or other devastating natural phenomena. It is very close to the US border and thus to major Internet backbone links.

PolarisMail servers are colocated with Peer1 Networks in a high-rise building, located downtown Montreal and fitted with 3 levels of security, including a 24/7 security guard. More details here

Internet Access

We are connected through two redundant Ethernet links directly into Peer 1's core network. Peer 1 is a top Tier 2 provider with very low latency across North America. Typical transit times to New York are 9ms and Los Angeles are under 80ms.

Power and Climate

Our colocation facility is fitted with a redundant climate control system, Fireflex pre-action fire suppression system, massive UPS's and backup diesel generators.

Servers

For its hardware, PolarisMail uses Supermicro chassis equipped with redundant power supplies, 3Ware RAID technology and Intel processors. Our operating system of choice is FreeBSD.
